Sprint Triathlon!

Competed in my first Sprint Tri today with Rosie!!! I was really sick, but I did it! The 5k run was hot, and I could have gone faster. The biking was long (13.1 miles) & definitely the hardest part, and the swim was disproportionately short (200 meters).

Husband surprised me by showing up to cheer me on -- I thought he had to work! So grateful for him, my sister for doing it with me, for a dad who cheered us on and insisted on selfies, for my aunt who came early to say hi, for sister who ran the 5k in the morning and came back to cheer us on...

I am sunburned, sore and sick, and also satisfied.

Say cheeeeeese

It sounds cheesy to say that my best friends are my family, but it is very, very true. There is no one I would rather spend time with than my sisters, no one I think is smarter than my mom and no one I find as delightful as my dad.

One sister lives in San Francisco now, and came down on the bus this week. My mom picked her up in the early morning at Union Station, and since I was awake feeding the baby, they brought breakfast to my house. We sat on the front lawn eating pancakes and talking baby talk to Wyatt.

Of course,  I forgot to take pictures of that.

But here are some of Wyatt with my family.

Paleyfest take two!

Had my second experience with Paleyfest today. My sisters, mom and I enjoyed a pretty great view of Marvel's Agents of Shield from the mezzanine of the Dolby theater.

Felicia Day moderated, which was fantastic. The audience asked pretty good questions. Phil Coulson lives.

Also we got to see the next episode ahead of time, so, nanananaaaaana.

Happy new year!

Today my family celebrated Naw Ruz, the Persian New Years, the first day of spring!

We get dressed up in pretty clothes, and eat really good food... usually salad shirazi, baghali polo (rice with dill and lima beans), fish, mast a chiar (yogurt with cucumber), dough (minty yogurt drink) and lavash (bread).

The haft-seen table has been set up with a lot of symbolic objects. Haft = 7, Seen = the letter S. So our table has... sabse (greens), persian coins, colored eggs, sombol (hyacinth), sumac, senjed (berries), samanu (wheat pudding), sib (apple), sir (garlic), serke (vinegar), sekke (coins) and also rose water, colored eggs, a mirror, gold fish... and lots of yummy persian candy and cookies.
