morning latte

Pleasant morning -- dog enjoying the light coming in from the window, and I took a little walk up to the Trails Cafe for a soy chai tea latte.

The Trails is a cute little coffee/sandwich/pastry place up the street. It's got vegan food, fun tea combinations... they put soy bacon bits in their avocado sandwich. What's not to love? Huell Howser did an interview with the owner in the Fern Dell episode of his show.

Now that I have a new backyard, I thought that it's time for some gardening! My dad has always had a huge, beautiful garden, and I always wanted one too. The last few years have been gardening disasters -- we had a dog who loved to dig, and who I could not successfully keep out of the garden. But without that dog, and in a new place.... maybe I'll be enjoying some backyard squash and tomatoes this year! Planted zuchinni, yellow squash, jalapenos, tomatoes, basil, and mint. Keeping it small and do-able for now.

ladders and light

A work in progress -- just hung our wedding photos in the living room. Love our big front windows. This house lets so much light in!

This house is painted in three colors -- the same three colors as the rest of the city of los angeles parks and recreation department... one of the colors is even named "parks and rec brown." Hah.

farmers market

Took a trip to the other side of the park for a visit to the Farmer's Market at the Gene Autry Museum. It was a beautiful day -- bought some fruit and veggies, some hummus and pita bread, was extremely grateful for easy and plentiful parking... love that this takes place in my very own backyard!

comfy evening

A cozy evening in our new house, curled up next to the fire. I haven't lived in a house with a fireplace since my parent's house -- looking forward to many an evening being cozy here!

Moving Day

The sun showing through the trees on moving day in my new front yard.

I recently moved to an amazing, old house with a lot of history, in a huge park in Los Angeles. I am  wife to a park ranger, I love the lore of this place, and I want to take pictures and write about it all. Welcome to Little House in the Big Park.

a VIP tour

My husband is a park ranger, so he arranged for me to go on a ride-along. We spent an entire day driving the trails through the park. It was amazing -- the park is about 5000 acres, so there's no way you can see the whole thing by foot. And most of the park's roads and trails are not accessible to the public by vehicle - only by foot, bike, or horseback. So to get to ride in a ranger vehicle through the park was awesome, and helped me get a better picture of where things are.
This is taken from up above the Hollywood Sign on Mt. Lee

This is a picture of the Hollywood sign - you can see where I had taken the picture from. Lots of people think that the Hollywood sign is on Mt. Hollywood, which is one peak over. Not so!

This is Bronson Canyon - the darker bottom right corner is where the entrance to the Bat Cave is -- from the original tv show. It's not a cave, so much as a tunnel. The canyon is beautiful. Coming back here to hike, for sure.
